a TAMM creations - evolution of a painting

a TAMM creation

Normally when I decide that I want to do a new painting, I just grab a canvas and go.  Today, I had an inspiration to do something for Fall. It was chilly here today, in fact with the windows open and the breeze blowing into the house, I actually had on a long-sleeve t-shirt!

This time, instead of just opening the paints and going, I grabbed a 12*12 stretched canvas and I did a pencil sketch of what I was thinking in my mind...

Step One:

I sketched out a Sunflower motif. If you haven't figured it out, this is my favorite flower motif to use. I love the petals and the simplicity of the flower, but at the same time, I can use any color I want on it and it looks great!!

Then I did the background. Another first for me - I did it in this baby blue. I started out doing all my paintings on a very pale, almost watercolor background (it actually was because I watered the paint down a lot to get just a hint of color to the background).  The next progression in my painting growth was to use a bold, bright blue as my background, and I loved the pop that it gave the flowers.  Today though, I just didn't feel that either of those was going to work for this fall flower I had in mind. So I was looking through my huge storage tub of paints, and I came across the baby blue and decided that was the perfect background.

Step Two:

I started with the center. For a sunflower it has to be a brown base coat.  I also used the brown to put down some vein lines in some of the petals.

Now I may have started the middle with a simple brown, but after a few coats a layer of yellow was added, then more coats of brown until just the right hint of the yellow peaked through and it looked like that deep, rich, multi-seeded middle of a sunflower.

Then to really give it that seeded look and to do something completely different, I covered the center in a light layer of fine glitter! Yes I did! Just enough to catch the light from across the room and give the painting dimension.

 Step Three:

Now we are getting into the petals. I started with the ones that will appear to be in the back layer of the flower petals and I went with a bright orange. Light layers of the orange, then a very little bit of the brown in the center of the petals, and another couple of layers of orange, and I finally had what I liked.

The closer layer of petals were done in a bright yellow, not a lemon yellow, but a golden yellow.  Same way, two or three layers of yellow, then a light layer of the orange in the very middle of the petals closest to the center, and then more yellow until it was perfect.

Step Four:

Here is where I allowed it time to dry.

Then I went back in with a little brown on a dry brush and brought out those veins in the orange petals. I also went back around the outside edge of every petal to make sure it was clean and didn't look wonky.

Lastly I added the glitter in the middle and allowed it to dry again.

The last step was to sign and date the back! Now its all ready to be photographed and listed in the store!!

a TAMM creation - Custom Painting Order

a TAMM creation

One of the things that I always mention on the store site, is that I will do custom orders. I just don't usually have anyone inquiring about them.

The other day I got a message from a customer that really liked one of the paintings, but was wondering if I could do it to match a rug she had in her living room.  Of course!!  I had her send me a picture of the rug to begin with.

This is the rug that she was looking to match.  I studied the rug, then I turned it and enlarged it so that I could see the colors and the variations better.

I came up with a color palette that I felt matched the rug pretty well. The outside most edges are a light sand color, then the next variation moving inwards is a deeper sand or more taupe color, then there is a bit of a brownish-orange and the red, with a purplish red in the very middle.

I put the colors onto a white sheet of paper and photographed it to send to her, as well as making a picture with the rug and the palette together.

Now, I sent these two photos above to the customer to get a feeling for what she thought. She loved them and requested to see the painting in both a circles theme and a squares them.

So today, I spent the time painting two 12*12 stretched canvases in her colors and themes.

If she approves, they will be sold to her today. If not, or she wants changes, I will do those, and then these two will go up on the website!

All in all it was a fun day and something I don't get to do all that much, but hopefully, now that you all know that I am willing and able to do custom orders, I will be doing more of them!!

Arthritis No-More Essential Oil Blend - a TAMM creation

a TAMM creation

Arthritis No-More

Given my long history with Chronic pain, that does not respond to traditional medications anymore, I have researched and studied a great deal on pain formulas. I have come up with what I call my Pain Series, a set of four oils for the different pains that I have to deal with on a monthly, weekly and sometimes daily basis.
As someone who suffers from Chronic Migraines and Chronic Pain, I have always been looking for relief, and I have tried a number of essential oil blends out there. After researching and studying, mixing and testing myself, I have finally come up with a blend that I like the best. It takes the best from the blends I have tried, along with those essential oils best suited for headaches and blends them to make a roll-on that helps better than any other I have tried.

Arthritis No-More Essential Oil Blend Roll-On has been blended especially to help alleviate severe joint pain that you might be feeling. Part of my Lupus condition is that it acts like Rheumatoid Arthritis in my body, so when I have a flare I have severe muscle pain and joint pain. This can be rubbed into the joints, and I find much more relief than from any of those store creams out there!

Now, I am not going to say it will alleviate every pain, that's just not possible, but at least for me, it is a great trick. I get very severe migraines, such that if I don't take medicine immediately I am in bed and most of the time throwing up. With Migraine No-More, I can take my medicine, roll-on a little on my temples and actually go about my daily routine. That is a big deal for me! Nothing else has ever allowed me to function while the medicine was working. With my joint pain, I haven't found a cream, gel or rub on the market to date that will do anything for my pain, so blending this was a necessity for me to be able to function. This gives me relief and allows my medications to work, and it also is able to be used more often than the medications, so I can continue to write, blend and be a mom to be kids.

Roll-Ons come in a 10ml blue glass bottle.
To use, roll the bottle over the joints that are in pain, and massage the oil into the joint. Can be repeated every four hours if needed. Start with a small amount and adjust upward as needed.

All my blends are made in Fractionated Coconut Oil, as this is a great carrier oil with no color or scent, and a very long shelf life. I find it doesn’t effect the blend the way other carrier oils can.
For Arthritis No-More, I have blended Lemongrass, Frankincense, Eucalyptus and Myrrh Essential Oils. Each selected for their best properties. By blending these in a select ratio, I have come up with what I like the best.

INGREDIENTS:
Lemongrass - is known as a migraine and headache relief agent, as well as being used for stress, anxiety, insomnia, muscle pain and cramps.
Frankincense - is an anti-inflammatory, which works well on joint pain and arthritis, as well as headaches and migraines.
Eucalyptus - is known to reduce stress and cause relaxation, but rubbing it on the forehead or temples can produce pain relief, and rubbing it on the bottom of the feet can reduce a fever.
Myrrh - is an anti-inflammatory (reducing inflammation of the joints) and an anti-spasmodic (calming muscle spasms), along with being a circulatory stimulant (getting the blood flowing).
Fractionated Coconut Oil is also a great carrier for essential oils. It readily absorbs to soothe dry skin making it the ideal oil for topical applications. It has natural antioxidant and disinfecting properties and does not clog pores. . Unlike Other Unrefined Carrier Oils Fractionated Coconut Oil Will Not Go Rancid And Is Extremely Stable. It won't become solid like regular coconut oil but keeps all the great properties we love about coconut oil!
Fractionated Coconut Oil is a super purified MCT coconut oil from which almost all the long chain triglycerides, and any impurities, are removed, thus leaving mainly the medium chain triglycerides creating the perfect MCT oil.

Baseball Earrings - a TAMM creation

a TAMM creation

Baseball Earrings

It's that time of year again, opening day of the Baseball Season was just here in the Major Leagues, the traveling teams have started playing, and the local parks will be full of kids soon. So why not have a little fun with it this year while you are sitting there watching your daughter or son, niece or nephew, granddaughter or grandson, brother or sister, or maybe just friends from school. So them you are supporting the team in a fun and whimsical way this Spring.

The white baseballs with red indented stitching measure just about 1/2 of an inch across, which makes them just the right size for any age! They are extremely lightweight so they will not pull on your ears no matter how long you are wearing them.

The baseballs are attached to silver stud posts, and, as with all my earrings, come with a pair of regular silver backs and a pair of silver disc backs.

Lemongrass Cucumber Lime Lip Balm - a TAMM creation

a TAMM creation

Lemongrass Cucumber Lime Lip Balm

As I have researched and studied Essential Oils I have found so many things that I love about them and they lend themselves to so many creations, and I am enjoying creating these for myself, my family and friends and for you all as well.

I make my lip balm in small pots, mostly because of personal preference. I prefer the pots to the tubes, mostly because I feel like you are able to use all the lip balm in the pot and not have to throw away the ends of the tubes used to hold them together.

To make my lip balms I have tested and come up with a blend of beeswax and coconut oil that is stable yet still smooth and spreadable.

In this lip balm, I have added Lemongrass, Cucumber and Lime Oils. This give it a fresh and light scent.

Lemongrass - has been used to relieve stress and anxiety
Cucumber - is a skin rejuvenator
Lime - has been used to relieve anxiety, apathy and nervousness. It also refreshes a tired mind, is uplifting and stimulating.

Pricing for the lip balms are:
$3.00 for one, discount for multiple pots - $5.00 for 2 pots.
If you are wanting more than that, please message me and I will work out a qty discount with you.

Migraine No More EO Roll On - a TAMM creation

a TAMM creation

The newest addition to the store is Essential Oil Blends.

Given my long history with Chronic pain, that does not respond to traditional medications anymore, I have researched and studied a great deal on pain formulas. I have come up with what I call my Pain Series, a set of four oils for the different pains that I have to deal with on a monthly, weekly and sometimes daily basis.

Migraine No-More Essential Oil Blend Roll-On has been blended especially to help alleviate those stubborn, hard to get rid of migraine headaches. It is “stronger” than Headache No-More, and formulated specifically for migraines.

As someone who suffers from Chronic Migraines, I have always been looking for relief, and I have tried a number of essential oil blends out there. After researching and studying, mixing and testing myself, I have finally come up with a blend that I like the best. Nothing else has ever allowed me to function will the medicine was working.

Roll-Ons come in a 10ml blue glass bottle.
To use, roll a small amount over the temples and massage the oil into the skin. For more pronounced pain, just roll the bottle over the temples and allow the stronger scent to help relive stress. It can also be rolled on at the base of the neck. Can be reapplied every few hours as needed.

All my blends are made in Fractionated Coconut Oil, as this is a great carrier oil with no color or scent, and a very long shelf life. I find it doesn’t effect the blend the way other carrier oils can.

For Migraine No-More, I have blended Peppermint, Basil, Grapefruit, Lemongrass, Frankincense, Spearmint and Ginger Essential Oils. Each selected for their best properties. By blending these in a select ratio, I have come up with what I like the best.

INGREDIENTS:
Basil - is known to stimulate circulation and aid in relaxation
Peppermint - is known as a pain reliever, it is also said to reduce stress.
Grapefruit - is known as a headache reducer, plus it is said to help clear mental fog
Lemongrass - is known as a migraine and headache relief agent, as well as being used for stress, anxiety, insomnia, muscle pain and cramps.
Frankincense - is an anti-inflammatory, which works well on joint pain and arthritis, as well as headaches and migraines.
Spearmint - is used for fatigue, headaches, migraines, nervousness and muscle pain.
Ginger - is a known anti-inflammatory, given world-wide for aches, pains and nausea of all types.

Customer Review:
I have had migraine headaches since I was a kid. I take preventative medication every day as the migraines are often and severe. That is why I chose this particular EO blend. My package arrived today. Perfect timing. I had a severe migraine. I took my pain meds. I rubbed Migraine No_More EO Roll On on my temples and the back of my neck and I felt better. No kidding. I couldn't believe it myself. Wow! The smell is wonderful. Usually when I have a migraine, any smell makes me vomit. This roll on actually took the nausea away. It is a light fresh minty smell. I am very sensitive to smells. The scent is not overpowering. It fades away. I think it smells great. It's amazing!!! Thank you!!!

Do You Bake - Beer Bread

One of the specials this month is our Flav Ah's for the Beer Breads. So I thought I would tell you about the Beer Bread, just in case you haven't tried it.

For me, I find that it makes a lighter, moist bread. Now, when I make mine, even though the box says one loaf pan, I divide my mix into two of the disposable aluminum full-size bread pans. I also go ahead and use the full bottle of beer, because I won't drink it!

Oh, and speaking of beer - when you are making beer bread, and I have found this to be true no matter where you get your mix from, always use cheap beer!! Cheap, light colored beer! If you go with a fancy dark beer it turns out awful. So for me, our local grocery has these metal bottles of beer for $1, and I will buy those and keep one or two on hand at all times to make beer bread.

If you really are opposed to beer, you can use seltzer water. That will give it the fizz and fluff that it needs to rise and make a good bread.

Why do I like DYB? Well, the taste. It tastes good. It feels lighter and moist in my mouth. Probably the best thing that I can say about DYB and what I absolutely love about them, the ingredients!! And what they don't put in there!! There are NO additives, NO colors or dyes, NO preservatives. For me, that feels wonderful feeding my family! In fact, the ONLY ingredients in the beer bread are: Flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.

That right there says it all for me! There is nothing there that I can't pronounce, nothing that I wonder about the effects on my kids, nothing that scares me. Its just plain, natural ingredients. And what makes it even better is that my kids like it, and they like that there are no additives - they are conscience of these things too, they learn about it in school, and they are trying to be healthier and wiser in what they put in their bodies. Thing is we don't have any more time in the day, so having mixes that help me in the prep that only contain natural products, is the greatest thing ever.
